Nope because if I remember well when I was still using it (it was very heavy on my PC and slowing seriously my Internet connection, I use Avast since very happily), it was providing for it.
Yes. Anti-viruses are great when dealing with programs running or trying to run on your machine, and with scanning email as it comes in and goes out, but a firewall protects your computer at the Internet level. It prevents certain kinds of Internet hacks (sent by hackers) from getting a toehold on your machine or even finding out that your IP address is there at all.
Windows has come with a so-so firewall ever since Windows XP. It’s better than nothing, and it has gotten better over the years, but a decent firewall, by Comodo, ZoneAlarm, Norton/Symantec or McAfee will do more for you.
